Art School Wales was created

by local artist and teacher

Shirley Griffiths in Autumn 2014.

The classes have been designed

to give adults full tuition in

a wide variety of media and

techniques in Art in a comfortable

and social environment,

with an emphasis on learning

rather than paperwork

or examinations.

New to Art?  Don't worry, you don't

need any previous experience

to join Art School Wales, all students receive one to one

and group tuition during classes.

Art School Wales is a unique learning hub that brings

together, in context, all aspects of art, design

and art history.

All materials used  are included in the course fees

(excluding paper, which can be purchased in class),

techniques are taught in pencil, water-soluble graphite, watercolour pencil, charcoal, soft pastel, oil pastel,

pen and wash, watercolours, acrylics, oils, inks

and gouache.

Step by step tuition is given in all media and students

are given optional set themes and projects to work on.

To help broaden knowledge and for inspiration,

each week in Art School, there is a brief presentation

with images on a particular artist's work in relation

to the current project.

We also have regular day's out too! During each 15 week

term there is an organised excursion to a place or city

of artistic interest (price not included).  So far students

have visited London, Oxford, American Museum in Bath, Highgate Cemetery, Castel Coch, Stoke-on-Trent Potteries, Coventry, Wells and Glastonbury amongst other places.

Each member of Art School will have access to our

Art School Group on Facebook, to keep ahead of whats

new in the world of art.

If all that wasn't enough, we also hold an end of year Art Exhibition.  The last 4 exhibitions were a huge success

and were held at the Riverfront Arts Centre Gallery

and St. Woolos Cathedral in Newport.

Your tutor, Shirley Griffiths lives in Newport and studied

Fine Art at University of Wales, Cardiff, and Post Graduate Certificate of Education at University of Wales, Newport.

Shirley has been teaching art for the last 20 years.  As well

as teaching art she is also a qualified Exercise to Music Instructor and has been lucky enough to teach overseas.
